• By his innovative skills and research-oriented mind, Dr. Gambhir was the first Indian cardiologist to develop a drug-coated stent in 2002, in collaboration with a group of clinical scientists from India. Presentation of clinical data on this new stent, the second only to a similar U.S. product, in one of the largest meetings of interventional cardiologists in Paris, not only won him great appreciation but also brought laurels to our country.
• Clinical Data Infinnium Stent – SIMPLE I, II and III studies presented in several International Conferences, including EURO-PCR (Paris) and TCT (USA) between 2004–2008.
• Stent got CE Mark Approval in 2007, DGCA approval in 2008.

• First in India to perform nonsurgical treatment of left main stenosis by deployment of stent (1996). Has performed 1000+ cases till date – the highest number in India.
• One of the icons in the field of interventional cardiology. Performed 30,000+ coronary, peripheral and other vascular interventions, using all types of balloon and nonballoon devices including atherectomy, rotablator and stents.
• Started first at G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi – Non-Surgical (PTCA) Treatment of Coronary Artery Disease Programme (1987); Interventional Cardiology Clinic (1990).
• First in India to perform successful non-surgical ablation of accessory pathway in tachycardias (1989).
• First in Asia to perform successful chemical ablation of AV node using alcohol (1991).
• Amongst the first to start non-balloon devices – atherectomy, stents for non-surgical treatment of coronary artery disease (1990–91).
• First in Asia to perform Pullback atherectomy procedure in coronary arteries (1996).
• First in the World to perform non-surgical dilatation of critical stenosis in the left main coronary artery in a young woman, aged 35 years (1995).
• Established the Radiation Therapy facility for the First Time in North India and Third Centre in the country (2000).
• Performed live for the First Time in India, the technique of PTMR using Non-Fluoroscopic navigational system (2000).

• Role of dual chamber pacing in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
• Pacing therapy for tachyarrhythmias.
• Evaluation of mechanism of several drugs in the control of cardiac rhythm disorders.
• Role of new devices for coronary artery disease, including atherectomy and stents.
• Evaluation of newer stents as a part of the Multicentric International Trials.
• Evaluation of newer antihypertensive drugs in the control of hypertension.
• Safety and efficacy of several antilipidemic drugs.
